Fishermen of Guadalupe
Tradition and quality of our Oaxacan coast.
The Sociedad Cooperativa Pescadores de Guadalupe is a community with a rich tradition in artisanal crab fishing. Located in the Huave-Zapoteca zone of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, where the richness of the mangroves maintains the biological balance of the coastal landscape.Â
Its more than 40 members have maintained artisanal shrimp, crab and flake fishing, using responsible techniques that reduce the impact on the ecosystem, with ethical capture systems (maya and light nets that allow small species to escape) as the engine of development. This has allowed us to build a solid company that guarantees products of the highest quality, economic autonomy and diversification of activities where the entire community is integrated into the value chain.
Zapotec Identity
It is important for the community to express in the same visual identity, the appropriation of their territory, their struggle for conservation and the cultural roots that still persist in the Isthmian identity, so it was logical for us to integrate symbolisms (reinterpretations) from the Zapotec language.
Great Goddess Nohuichana and her lunar power.
It was a female entity that controlled the cosmic reality that links the tides, rain, sowing and the female menstrual cycle, in this way the star marks the vital rhythms and renewal, therefore the goddess Nohuichana exercised control over the waters of the rivers and fishing.
At BTQ Design, we set out to develop a complete brand identity and marketing strategy for Pescadores de Guadalupe, through the creation of a verbal and visual discourse that highlights the brand's values and enhances the commercialization of artisanal fishing on the Oaxacan coast.
We have worked closely with the cooperative in learning activities. These activities allow entrepreneurs to engage in strategic planning, adopt innovative methodologies and strengthen their businesses through a digital marketing plan and visibility strategies. In this way, we seek to establish strong connections between the community and new audiences, contributing to sustainable growth for Pescadores de Guadalupe.
+ This project is part of the Restoration of Emblematic Landscapes in Oaxaca and Chiapas, under the direction of Conservation International Mexico, and seeks to implement restoration actions that contribute to increasing socio-environmental resilience and strengthening local environmental governance for the conservation of biological and productive diversity, the reduction of emissions from deforestation and the maintenance of biological connectivity.
