Urns for Nature -

Huatulco's national park and its coastal landscape is alive thanks to the natural and cultural values that are preserved in the community, where marine and terrestrial ecosystems with high biological diversity are located. This is a site of great importance for the tourism, fishing, and economic sectors of the region; preserving this site is a priority for the present and future.

URNS for nature

This project is part of the "Paisajes Sostenibles Oaxaca-Chiapas" program, whose objective is the integrated management of landscapes to preserve biodiversity, promote and adopt sustainable land use practices, and strengthen the social and economic conditions of local communities.

Within the coastal landscape there are protected natural areas with the category of Biosphere Reserves, National Parks, sea turtle nesting sanctuaries, areas voluntarily designated for conservation, as well as fishing refuge zones, which require financial mechanisms that allow for ecological and biological continuity, Within the coastal landscape of Oaxaca and Chiapas called Huatulco - Cacaluta, which includes Huatulco National Park, with marine and terrestrial ecosystems of high biological diversity, this is a site of great relevance for the tourism, fishing and economic sector of the region, and conserving this site is a priority for the present and future.

Based on the sustainability needs of the "Paisajes Sostenibles Oaxaca-Chiapas" program, the project - URNAS por la naturaleza - was implemented to strengthen the financing mechanism that helps in the search for funds, involving diverse actors within the community, tourism and private initiative, all in favor of preserving and involving the entire population in the conservation of the landscapes, through fundraising.

Communication
Our speech allowed us to make an invitation to the audiences about the importance of constant participation in the preservation of the coastal landscape. It is a call to action on the importance of working collectively to strengthen the funds and resources needed for the program.

Slogan:
Everything you find in Huatulco is where it should be:
Know, Support and Preserve!

  • Recognize the landscape beyond its beauty and structure.

How is your life process and biodiversity richness?

  • It is a call to action.

How to contribute to the conservation and life of the landscape and what is the overall impact?

  • Respect for the coastal landscape and its importance in the sustainability of the region.

How to live the coastal landscape in a dignified way?

El Nido

Problem / Need

- Increase financial sustainability in the integrated management of the three priority landscapes: Reefs, Dry Forest and Open Sea.
- Through direct communication of the project's objectives, its key stakeholders and the importance of joint community and tourist participation.

Our speeches focused on expressing the conservation needs for Huatulco National Park, "The nest" as a concept and space that preserves life, preserves it to live and grow.

Design

We designed 3 pavilions that represent the coastal landscape of Huatulco, each reflecting unique characteristics of the ecosystems that make it up. All of them expose the concept of "The nest" as a space that preserves life, preserves it to live and grow.

Each structure is formed by a sequence of pine plywood panels, built in the form of a self-supporting grid by their assemblies, their geometries are abstracted from the ecosystem they represent.

At the center of each structure is a fundraising urn that represents the life we seek to protect.
The program's communication is engraved directly on the wood, alluding to some engraving techniques of the region, this technique allows the presence of the graphics to be maintained for a longer period of time.

Project promoted by:

The Huatulco National Park Directorate (PNH) of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), the Huatulco business sector, Conservation International Mexico (CI), and the El Triunfo Conservation Fund (FONCET A.C.).
